Energus Finance, Audit & Risk Development Programme – Seb Rea
My journey so far…
I am an accounting & finance graduate from Liverpool John Moore’s University. My motivation for applying to the Finance, Audit and Risk Development Programme was to gain the fundamental knowledge necessary for a career in finance whilst studying towards the CIMA qualification. Moreover, a role within the nuclear industry with sustainability as a priority agenda is aligned with my own personal views and desires. The programme presents an opportunity to gain exposure to different organisations within the NDA group, and to specialise in a chosen field in the third year of the programme will allow me to focus on an area I find more interesting. Having this choice in the third year made the programme stand out to me.
The recruitment process started for me whilst at university and I had exams during the assessment centre week so I know how stressful that can be. An online recruitment process along with virtual assessments present the challenge of not being able to convey your personality across though the screen. However, I found the whole process extremely welcoming and easy to be myself, during the assessment centre we were given the opportunity to better understand whether the programme would be suitable for us as individuals but also network and learn about the industry. My induction with Energus began with two weeks of educational development and courses to gain the skills necessary for starting our secondments and a valuable insight into the NDA group. I quickly noticed the strong organisational culture at Energus and the NDA group.
I have now spent a month with my first secondment host; Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), where I received a warm welcome supporting the Financial Operations team. Learning curves have been met by on-board training which has been great (even online) and allowed me to become active in my role from the start. I am excited to continue with RWM and the different placements to follow.
