National Apprenticeship Week 2025: Meet Ashleigh, Health and Safety Technician

This National Apprenticeship Week, we are celebrating Ashleigh, our former Health and Safety Apprentice.
Ashleigh has been working with Energus for 2 years, using the skills she has developed during her apprenticeship to which she applies in her permanent role at Energus as, Health and Safety Technician. Her journey started at Energus where she was spending one day a week at Lakes College in lessons preparing for her NEBOSH Exams provided by Woodward SHE Ltd Health and Safety Training. The other 4 days a week she was gaining first-hand experience, working at Energus, learning about the building and the health and safety protocols we have in place.
The theme of the 2025 National Apprenticeship Week is skills for life, focusing on how apprenticeships provide you with enough knowledge and practical skills to prepare the apprentices for the future. Ashleigh’s skills which she learned during her apprenticeship are adaptable for a full-time career within the Health and Safety industry. She credits Shaun Stanger, General Manager of Energus, for giving her the most support during her apprenticeship and how he helped her learn and understand the health and safety protocols at Energus.
Some elements of her apprenticeship which Ashleigh was required to perform include different health and safety walk arounds, during which she brings awareness to unsafe practices and provides safe alternatives. Ashleigh also runs safety checks on products such as fire extinguishers, to ensure they are meeting the correct safety standards. Part of Ashleigh’s role is to also respond to employees' advisories if they have any health and safety concerns within in and around the Energus site.
Ashleigh also learnt how to correctly write risk assessments and understand and apply PUWER (Provision and Use of Equipment Regulations, 1998) Regulations.
Ashleigh is a valued member of team Energus who has really developed her confidence and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
